The goal of smoke testing is to determine whether important features are working and to give a green light to the QA team for further testing. It's usually a very basic test and consists of a minimal set of tests run for each build. Smoke tests prevent the QA team from trying to test something that doesn't actually work at all. They`re great for testing new functionalities which might break the existing code base.
